We humans tend to be an impatient sort. We like to go where we want to, when we want to, and get there as quickly as possible. To that end, we often make our own paths, rather than follow the ones laid out in front of us. The trouble is, while we end up getting where we’re going more quickly, and usually more easily, we miss a lot along the way.

It’s the same way in our lives. We’re told in scripture that God has specific plans for our lives. However, we don’t always like to follow where He leads us. We dislike the destination, find the journey too difficult, feel like God is taking too long, someone tries to dissuade us, or something else happens along the way, and before we know it, we’re off on our own path.

That doesn’t mean that we’re never supposed to take action. But when we take action in a way that serves to try to speed up God’s timing, or to head off in our own direction, that’s when the trouble comes.

Instead, even though it can be really difficult at times, and can seem like it’s taking forever for His plans to come to fruition, God really does have our best interest in mind, and if we’re patient and trust Him, things will happen – in His time.
