When I was very young, I was almost killed by my doctor because I had a bad allergic reaction to a vaccine, and they decided to give me a second dose of the vaccine anyhow.

Several times in the past, I’ve been cheated by mechanics who performed expensive, unnecessary repairs on my truck trying to “fix” what ended up being, in reality, minor problems.

In fact, I’ve never met a doctor or mechanic who got it right 100% of the time. But that doesn’t stop me from going to the doctor or taking my truck to the mechanic – I just found ones I could trust.

In the same way, many people have been deeply hurt by people who claimed to be Christians. And I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t get it right all of the time either.

But just as we don’t allow past experiences with a quack doctor or a shady mechanic to keep us from getting the help we, or our vehicle, need, we, too, need to realize that not everyone who calls themself a “Christian” really is.

And those that are – are still human too.
